About Rev. John Iwohara
Reverend John Iwohara received his novice ordination (Tokudo) as a Jodo Shinshu priest in 1983 while an exchange student at the International Christian University in Tokyo, Japan. After returning to America he received his B.A. from UCLA. Following undergraduate studies, Rev. Iwohara then attended Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada, earning an M.A. in Social and Community Psychology, and then went to Japan to pursue formal studies in Jodo Shinshu Buddhism at Ryukoku University. After earning the MA degree and completing doctorate studies in Jodo Shinshu at Ryukoku University, Rev. Iwohara was assigned to the Buddhist Churches of America (BCA). Rev. Iwohara has served the temples in Fresno, Vista, Seattle, Venice (Los Angeles), and is currently assigned to the Gardena Buddhist Church. Rev. Iwohara has been a priest with the BCA serving for over 30 years.
