“Also, Shariputra, in that Buddha country there
is always celestial music being played. The ground is made of yellow gold, and six times each day and night there rains the flower of the Mandarava. Always in the early morning the living beings in that country fill each of their robes with various beautiful flowers and offer (the flowers) to the ten billion Buddhas in the other directions. Then (they) return at the mealtime to their own country, where they eat rice and then walk about. Shariputra, the country of Utmost Happiness is accomplished with these virtues and splendid decorations.
“And also, Shariputra, in that country there are
always various kinds of rare, beautiful, and colorful birds. (These are) swans, peacocks, parrots, shrikes, curlews, and birds with two lives. All these various birds make harmonious, elegant sounds six times each day and night. These sounds proclaim the various Dharmas of the Five Roots, the Five Powers, the Seven Kinds of Wisdom, and the Eightfold Noble Path. Living beings in that Land, having heard these sounds, reflect on the Buddha, reflect on the Dharma, and reflect on the Sangha. Shariputra, do not say these birds are born as the result of the evil retribution of Karma. Then what is the reason? In |
